WOW.

Life recently has been chaos. Poor Calvin had his surgery on the 9th of May, and I was expecting him to be a little crabby, but boyyy I was not ready for what he was like for two whole weeks. Poor little guy was just plain awful.  For those of you who did not know, he had new ear tubes put in, as well as his adnoids removed and tonsils as well.

When he woke up in the recovery room he screamed and cried and fussed for an hour straight, and managed to rip out his iv from his arm in the process and vomit all over me and himself twice. Yuck. I managed to calm him down, but he would.not.drink.a.drop. They wouldn't let him leave until he drank at least 8 oz of fluids. Sounds easy enough right? NOPE. We ended up being there a whopping 10 hours before we were released. To say my son is stubborn is an understatement! Finally, Jess had the brilliant idea of dumping Calvin's required fluids into the trash when the nurse left the room for a moment. If he had not done that, we probably would have been there all night!
Shay was a trooper. Since she won't take bottles, I had to have her with me the entire time. And Jess had to go to work for a few hours, and I was pretty nervous to be left with the both of them in the hospital room, but Shay was SO GOOD! She even slept for about 3 hours straight in her carseat..the little angel :)

So, once we were home I thought things would get easier. NOPE. Calvin REFUSED his medicine which was liquid Lorotab..man I wish I could have had some of that! It was a battle every time, and most of the time I would get it spit in my face which was so pleasant. So, Calvin was miserable for an entire 24 hours straight since he was in so much pain. Eventually, I thought of the brilliant plan of hiding it in his drinks, and was finally able to convince him to take his medicine. He woke up at least 3 times at night because his throat would dry out so much from sleeping with his mouth open...and it would take FOREVER to get him back to sleep because he would be so upset.

My patience was definitely tested to the max. I had a few spectacular mommy meltdowns that I am not the least bit proud of, but hey, who's perfect? I was on my knees alot the past 3 weeks praying for help and patience! I am so grateful that the Lord is always there listening.

It took a good 5 days for him to act normal again. And here we are almost 3 weeks later, and things pretty much are normal. The only thing now is that it is impossible to get this kid to eat 3 meals a day. He got very used to having snacks whenever he wanted, because I would be so happy that he would even want to eat something that I would give it to him! So, once we get back to our 3-meal-a-day schedule things will be juuuuust peachy!

I am so grateful that he had this surgery though and I am praying that it helps him, and that we have NO MORE EAR INFECTIONS!!!! :)
