Boys...

I knew it was only a matter of time before my little rascal would need stitches. One Thursday evening I was starting to make dinner, and realized we had no milk, which was vital to my recipe. So, I strapped Shay into the truck, had it running, and was attempting to get Calvin to get out of the house. The silly boy he is, he giggled and ran back into the house while I chased him, and he turned a corner and I heard him fall and cry. I was behind him not even 5 seconds, and when I saw him, there was blood gushing everywhere.
He had slipped and caught the corner of our side table right into his eyebrow, and it slit his face open all the way to his skill! The amount of blood was alarming; I had never witnessed a head wound before so I did not realize how much they bleed!
In an instant, I picked up him, not without saying a few choice words which I will not repeat :). I sprinted to the truck and was attempting to get him in it, but luckily my neighbors were home. I rushed over to their door, and Ben the Dad answered and all I could manage to scream out was "Help!!"
He was cool as a cucumber, he helped close Calvin's gushing wound up with some duct tape and gauze. Calvin I think at this point had gone into shock because he was no longer crying but was quietly hyperventilating poor thing. But me, I was hysterical. I was a mess..let's just be serious for a second! Seeing that much blood coming out of your 2 year old, and seeing his freaking skull exposed was traumatizing for me.
Ben and his kids were great and took Shay who was still in the running truck and told me to go to the ER and they would be fine with her. Luckily I had moments before the tragedy fed her, so she was good for at least 3 hours.
So, me and Cal showed up the totally empty ER completely drenched in blood, and they got us in quickly to get some stitches in his eyebrow. But once we were there, Calvin snapped back into reality and was freaking out. So, they had to knock him out in order to do the stitches. The plastic surgeon who stitched him up was nervous about it being so close to his eye, and he did not want to puncture it with the numbing needle or the stitches themselves.  I thought this was a good plan!
So, about an hour later he was knocked out and they got the stitches in right quick. 8 stitches in all! He was so good about the IV in his arm too, which any of you who know about his surgery 3 months ago know how awful he was about his IV!
2 1/2 hours later we finally pulled into the driveway, and a very tired very swollen Calvin went right to bed.
A week later we got the stitches out and boom! He looks like a new kid :) It healed up great! Hopefully no more stitches anytime soon!

Cal the next day poor guy!

this is as still as I could get him to stand for a pic of the actual stitches. I did not get any while at the ER
