Gunshots in the Night

So..here I am sitting up in bed-home alone with Calvin. Usually I am alright being by myself, but tonight of all nights when I have a math test early tomorrow morning that there is a gun shot outside of my house. AWESOME. So, I proceed to get up and look out my window, can't see anything, but I instantly run around the house making sure all of our windows and doors are locked. Then, I call Jess and tell him what happened. He is in Northern Cali hunting russian boars in a 1200 acre olive and almond ranch. He tells me to call 911 and to get one of our handguns and load it and go up in our room and lock the door. I call 911 and talk to them-they say that they're sending out an officer to patrol the neighborhood.
When I hang up with the police, the panic finally sets in. I call Jess back in tears and am freaking out. He calms me down, and walks me through how to load the 9mm we have and how to fire it. I listen intently, but am way to nervous to actually bring the gun upstairs in the bedroom with Calvin and I. I do not trust myself at all with a loaded gun, so I figure it's best to leave it where it is (unloaded of course), and I grab a large sharp kitchen knife instead! haha.
Jess got me calmed down a ton, and once I said goodnight to him I say a prayer and instantly feel better. But still a bit shaky I call my neighbor Jenny because I see their lights are still on. Her husband Ben walked around the neighborhood and said he doesn't see or hear anything outside and assures me that all is well. They were actually really excited because they say nothing ever interesting happens in this neighborhood haha! But, I am now back in bed with the tv on and the bedroom door locked with Calvin right next to me snoozing happily-blissfully unaware of the terror I was feeling just a few moments ago. But I am fairly certain that everything is going to be fine; maybe our weird neighbors were playing russian roulette or something! But one thing is for sure, I am definitely leaving the tv on all night tonight!
Pray that I do well on my math test in the morning! AH!!
